The Snitch
Lyra pulled at her mothers shirt gently, to let her know she was there. Her hair had been pulled in to tight pigtails by her mother earlier that day, but unfortunately to her mother, Lyra had yanked them out letting her silvery blond hair cascade down her back. Narsissa looked down at her daughter in concern.
“Whats wrong dear?” She asked seeing her daughters upset face. “Is there anything you need? Or want?” she asked with a gentle smile stroking Lyras cheek with her hand.
“Mother, when is Draco coming home?” she asked, staring up at her mother with her silvery green eyes.
Narsissa sighed and stepped from her 7 year old daughters grasp. “How did I know you were going to say that?” Narsissa looked at her daughter who’s lips puckered as if she was about to cry. “I’m sorry dear Draco won’t be home until a month or two.”
Lyra frowned and crossed her arms. “But mommy, I want to see Draco now!” she said bouncing impatiently.
“I’m sorry dear… I miss Draco too.” she said soothing her daughter by playing with her daughters straight hair. “Have you practiced your French today?”
Lyra shook her head, and began to walk away. “no…” she paused at the door way and looked over her shoulder at her mother, with on last longing look, and continued out and up the steps.
Lucius stepped though the door that night the chilly wind blowing behind him, only to suddenly have his daughter fly in to his arms. He stepped back in shock and caught his daughter. “Daddy!” he heard her say.
“Hello Lyra,” he paused than stared at her. “What do you want?” he asked realizing that she only did this when she wanted something.
“I don’t want anything…” she said stilling back in his arms, her right arm looped around his neck. Lucius raised one eyebrow at Lyra.
“Alright what is it?”
“What is what?”
“The thing you want.” Lyra sat back and acted confused. “Lyra I know you want something.
“I want…” she paused and stared at him biting her lip, she was silent.
“You want what?” he asked, again Lyra was silent. “Lyra if you don’t tell me, you won’t get anything at all!”
Lyra froze fears spreading in her eyes, “Daddy, I want to go visit Draco at Hogwarts!” she cried.
Lucius sat back a little surprised and than chuckled darkly. “That’s it? I thought this would have cost money!” he said laughing again. “I’m sure you can. After I have a talk with Dumbledor I’m sure you can see Draco on Saturday!”
Lyra cheered in happiness and hugged her father. “Thank you Daddy!”
Lyra sat in Dumbledors office, with her mother Lyras blond hair had been Pulled straight back in to a high pony tail but even so her hair reached past her back. Narsissa smiled and played with her daughters hair.
“Alright Ms. Malfoy, Severes will take Lyra to Draco, and you may pick her up tonight. Don’t worry she will be just fine.”
“Oh I don’t doubt that Albus.” purred Narsissa standing, Lyra stood as Snape entered the room. Lyra glanced up at him than back at her mother, who had knelt in front of her. “now Lyra give this to Draco,” she said handing her daughter a letter. “and have fun!” She rose and kissed her daughter on the top of the head.
“Bye mum!” said Lyra going to Snapes side, he smiled at Narsissa as she passed and nodded a greeting which she returned. Snape led Lyra out of the office.
Lyra swallowed hard now that her mother wasn’t there Lyra felt suddenly very insecure. Hogwarts was so big, and full of bigger kids, she was only six… as they approached one of the big star cases Lyra grabbed on to Snapes hand and held on to it tightly.
He looked down at her in surprise than saw her fear and let her cling to him, Lyra soon heard the sound of students drawing near she swallowed. Snape gently squeezed her hand as Lyra silently regretted ever coming. She than swallowed her fear, she was a Malfoy they wouldn’t have liked that she was scared, they turned the corner and Lyra saw what must have been the great hall. Snape led Lyra to the Slytherin table and Lyra recognized the blond head that he was taking her to, she remained silent.
Snape tapped Draco on the shoulder as the students around him became silent. “Mr. Malfoy.” Draco turned to look at him “I believe this belongs to you!”
Draco was confused at first and he stated this by knitting his eyebrows and tilting his head to the right, he glanced down to see Lyra peering out from behind Snape. “Lyra?” he questioned.
With out warning Lyra giggled and jumped in to her brothers arms. “Hiya Draco!” she said as he pulled her up on to the seat next to him, Snape sat back on his heels.
“Alright seeing that I am not needed here any longer I’ll be leaving!”
“Bye!” cried Lyra as Draco unhooked her from his neck.
“Lyra what are you doing here?” he asked not really wanting to know the answer Lyra handed him the letter that she had been gripping like it was life it’s self for the past five minutes. He opened it and read it through, as Lyra ducked closer to him and exchanging glances with Slytherins. Draco grinned and shoved the letter in to his pocket, he slammed his hand on the table, which made Lyra jump.
“Everyone I’m only going to say this once! This is my sister, Lyra, she’s going to be with me today, alright? Good!” he paused as a plate appeared in front of Lyra, “go on eat!” he said placing some eggs and muffins on her plate.
Lyra looked at the food and than back at everyone else. Draco yanked at her pony tail which caused it to fall out, and down her back.
“There we go now I see the resemblance.” Laughed Pansy Parkinson who sat across from Draco. Lyra looked up at her with a scowl.
