Karrie lay on the bed at the burrow, her red hair spread on the pillow, he eyes were tear streaked and a constant pain as sharp as a spear was held in her throat. She glanced at her watch, just a few days ago at this time they were back at Hogwarts…
Karrie bit her lip as she saw her brother looking down at the coffin, she slowly approached, her heart ached for her closest family member. They had been so mad at each other, Draco was gone and Karrie couldn’t do anything about that… no matter how much she wanted it not to be true.
Her black dress flipped as she came to his side, and soft breeze whispered in her ears and laced her hair behindher. She gently slipped her hand in to her brothers, to let him know she was there, with the comfort he so desired. She rubbed his arm with her other hand warmly. “Harry…” she whispered.
He slowly looked over at her, the pairs of green eyes stared at their mirror image. Harry gently shook his head and bit his lip, trying so hard to be strong. Karrie smiled her smallest smile as if that would make anything better, she squeezed his hand gently. Than in a matter of moments the twins were in each others comforting embrace. It was than that Karrie felt Harry start to sob in to her shoulder.
They were flesh and blood, twins, together at birth, and for once they needed each other more than ever. Karrie hugged him tightly and stroked his black hair, she glanced over at Hermione and Ron, who looked at her and tried to smile.
Karrie couldn’t help but feel some guilt wash over her, she had known… she had known… if she had told people maybe none of this would have happened…
Karrie laid in the grass, just outside of the forbidden forest… small wolf pups played at her side, she herself wasn’t a wolf at the moment… or human… her skin was a grayish hue and she possessed human features except for her golden eyes, and her wolf ears and tail. It was Saturday… she had been there that whole night, it hadn’t bothered her it wasn’t the first time she had slept with her four legged family.
Now she was braiding grass blades. She couldn’t go back to Hogwarts… not yet… until she figured out her head and heart. Last night, Draco had told her something, something important… he was a death eater… he was now part of the army who’s leader had killed her parents, and nearly her brother. She felt betrayed… it wasn’t like Draco, she knew him better than anyone at Hogwarts. Yet she was so surprised when he told her… she had run.
Karrie couldn’t understand, did this suddenly change the way she felt about him? It couldn’t have…could it? After all, he had told her… he trusted her not to tell anyone. But at the same time he was a death eater! Karrie laced her fingers in her hair trying to concentrate, she was hearing to sides one was her heart… the other her head.
She could easily admit that she loved Draco, that was well known around Hogwarts. She didn’t know what to do… she was fighting the hardest war of all, she quivered as she began to cry, how would she ever know what her hearts desire really was.
Karrie swallowed her head popped up as she remembered the mirror, the mirror that showed your hearts desire. And with that fur began to spout out of her skin as she darted to the school that stood near by, and inside. Karrie was very thankful that the students had all gotten used to random wolves, running about Hogwarts. Karrie skidded to a stop as her wolf form disappeared. She paused and stared at Dumbledors office, she swallowed hard and muttered the password the steps appeared and Karrie darted up them taking them two at a time.
Karrie felt tears sting at her eyes, she was sobbing when she reached the top of the steps.
“Karrie dear what is wrong?” asked Dumbledor coming to her, as Karrie collapsed on to her knees at his feet, Dumbledor cupped her head in his hands and stared at her eyes twinkling.
Karrie looked at him eyes shining with tears. “Oh Professor I am so confused! I don’t know what to do! I need to see the mirror, It will be to late if I don’t!” she cried, her eyes meeting his, he smiled kindly.
Dumbledor offered her his hands, she took them and stood, he wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders. She still sobbed, Karries eyes were blurry or closed, Dumbledor was her eyes for the few minutes she was blind.
Blind with love? Fear? Confusion? She herself didn’t know. Karrie was only able to wipe the tears away when Dumbledors soothing voice echoed in her ears. “Karrie,” she looked at him and he lead his hand to the mirror. “I can see that you’re the only one who really needs to see this…” he said Karrie looked at him and smiled.
“Thank you Professor.” she whispered, heading to the mirror, she took a deep breath and stepped to see her reflection, images whirled around her, she could see her tears stricken face, there staring back at her. The image that was painted before her made her gasp, and step back to steady herself.
She felt warm hands on her shoulders than. “Go my dear Karrie, before it’s to late.” she wasn’t even sure if he saw what she saw, but she looked at him, she suddenly had a new respect for him.
With that she ran out the door to find herself in Dumbledors office. She ran down the steps, of his office. Her black boots clicked on the floor, her blue jeans were a simple flash to most. She smiled as random girls saw her coming and pushed people out of her way.
Draco sat in one of the Slytherin common room chairs, his silver eyes had glazed over on the open potions book that lay open in his lap, he hadn’t turned the page in well over 5 minutes. He knew that Karrie would never forgive him, it’s not like he had wanted it to happen! He now felt so alone, like no one was around him, though Pansy Parkinson sat on the couch across from him shooting worried looks at her friends.
Draco felt so alone so lost, Karrie had been the only thing he was sure of in his life. Now everything was twisted and he couldn’t tell what was reality and what was a dream.
Suddenly and fuchsia colored origami butterfly flew around him and landed in the book, he blinked and picked it up, with out even glancing around he carefully began to unfold it.
“a Place we can be alone…”
L'ange de Musique
Draco looked up suddenly and than twisted around in the chair to see a flash of garnet hair disappear through the portrait. He stood letting the book fall to the floor, he didn’t say a word when he left the common room, though questions were thrown at him from all directions. He new what this note meant, they used things like that last year, his black and green robes bowed behind him at each step. Karrie’s name meant “Song,” so she always signed her name as L'ange de Musique, the Angel of Music and his was always Dragon.
Draco finally reached his destination it had only been 5 minutes but it seemed like an hour or so. He walked past a wall repeating “al place we can be alone.” over and over quietly, suddenly a door appeared in front of him he looked around and pulled at the door, it opened and he stepped inside, there sitting inside was Karrie sitting on a couch swinging her feet.
Karrie closed her eyes tears beginning to form in her eyes, she stood and looked over at him, “Hey,” she said warmly.
“You came…”
Draco smirked, “yes I did.”
Karrie smiled and offered him the seat next to him, he walked coolly to her and sat down next to her. She turned to face him taking a deep breath for bravery. Draco scanned her face calmly he could see the tears glistening in her eyes. “Karrie?” he asked, becoming a bit concerned.
“Draco, I’m really sorry about yesterday,” she said taking his hands. “I guess I was just surprised and confused, I shouldn’t have ran away like that, I’m so sorry.” she said shaking her head. “Than I realized that I love you, and I don’t care about it, as long as your mine, I’m ready to take that chance, that danger.” she said with a sweet smile.
Draco smiled, “Thanks Karrie, but don’t feel bad, I think I would have been surprised if you had acted any other way.” Karrie smiled and scooted closer to him so she would be folded in his arms.
“Lets just say that I would have been more upset if you hadn’t told me, so thanks for that. Also if you ever need anything you know you can always call on me.”
Draco chuckled, “I know, that’s why I told you. You will be able to keep my life together.” he said “Anything?” he asked kissing her neck.
Karrie giggled and slapped his shoulder playfully. “Not tonight Draco.” she said with a grin, as she snuggled warmly in his arms with a roll of her green eyes.
Karrie now wished she was back in his arms, more than anything. She would give up anything she had to feel his arms around her again.
“Karrie?” Karrie jumped at the voice that had entered the room, she looked over to see Ginny Weasly slowly approaching her. “I knew you wanted to talk to me, and I knocked a couple of times when you didn’t answered, I got a little worried, are you alright.”
Karrie gazed up at the ceiling. “Yeah I’m ok,” as a crystal escaped her eye and ran down her cheek.
“That tear doesn’t say that!” Ginny grinned and sat at the end of the bed and placed her hands and chin on her knees. “So tell me.”
Karrie shook her head. “Ginny if I tell you… you can’t tell anyone alright?”
Ginny nodded brightly, Karrie sighed. “I knew…”
“What?” asked Ginny, “Knew what?”
“About Draco…”
“You knew his plan and you didn’t tell anyone!”
Karrie looked at her, and returned her accusing look. “No! Draco never told me about that he just told me to go in to the forbidden forest, but I knew about him.” she paused,
“The mark… everything.”
Ginny sat back aghast “and you didn’t tell Harry because?”
“Ginny, I couldn’t. Draco’s my boy friend, and friend. If Harry had done something and he told you to keep it a secret, would you tell Ron?”
Ginny stared at her, “no of course n-oh… I see.”
“Yeah… see Draco told me, at first I was upset, and all. But he was so lost Ginny! He Didn’t know what to do! He didn’t want to do it!” Karrie felt tears in her eyes. “He-he told me that I was the only thing he was sure of, that I was the only thing he could hold on to, I was the only thing keeping his from giving up… I believed him…” she paused “I know stupid little girl, believing a fairytale like that.” Karrie scoffed.
Ginny shook her head. “No! Karrie your not stupid. I’m sure Draco was telling you the truth, I mean he loved you, it was so obvious! And well known he wouldn’t lie to you. No matter how much I think he would.”
Karrie chuckled. “You should tell Harry this Karrie…”
“No he would hate me! For not telling him in the beginning!”
Ginny stared at her. “want me to…?”
“no, Ginny. I don’t think he would understand!” Karrie sighed. “Ginny I am just so scared… for Draco, I don’t know where he is, of if he is even alright!”
“Karrie, I’m sure he’s fine!”
Karrie stared at the ceiling again, and sighed… Ginny knew that she would have to tell Harry, but she would protect Karrie with her life!
Karrie bit her lip as she saw her brother looking down at the coffin, she slowly approached, her heart ached for her closest family member. They had been so mad at each other, Draco was gone and Karrie couldn’t do anything about that… no matter how much she wanted it not to be true.
